At Galaxy Unpacked 2024, Samsung unveiled the long-awaited Galaxy S24 series, featuring the S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra models. This year's focus is on the integration of artificial intelligence features under the 'Galaxy AI' brand, accompanied by significant changes to the design and imaging capabilities of the S24 range. Design
In terms of design, the Galaxy S24 series features a flat screen for all models, marking a change from the slightly curved screen of the previous Galaxy S24 Ultra. The S24 and S24+ adopt a square design with rounded corners and thinner edges, similar to the iPhone 15. The frame of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is made from titanium.
The less expensive S24 and S24+ versions retain a reinforced aluminium frame. All models benefit from Corning Gorilla Victus 3 glass protection on the front and back, and are IP68-rated for dust and water resistance, as before.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with an integrated S Pen stylus.
Camera improvements
The Galaxy S24 Ultra looks similar to the S23 Ultra, but with one important difference: it has a new 50-megapixel sensor for 5x optical zoom, ditching the S23 Ultra's 10x optical zoom. The S24 Ultra offers up to 100x spatial zoom, records 8K video and uses AI Zoom for better quality photos in low light. On the front, it has a 12-megapixel camera with dual-pixel autofocus.
For the Galaxy S24 and S24+, they both have a standard 50-megapixel image sensor, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens. For selfies, they have the same 12-megapixel sensor on the front, with up to 30x zoom. Although the cheaper versions don't have any major changes to the camera, Samsung's artificial intelligence and other software features still make it possible to take great photos.
